¹⁹ Babylon,^(A) the jewel of kingdoms,^(B)
    the pride and glory^(C) of the Babylonians,^[a]
will be overthrown^(D) by God
    like Sodom and Gomorrah.^(E)

⁵ “Sit in silence,^(A) go into darkness,^(B)
    queen city of the Babylonians;^(C)
no more will you be called
    queen^(D) of kingdoms.^(E)

⁹ Both of these will overtake you
    in a moment,^(A) on a single day:
    loss of children^(B) and widowhood.^(C)
They will come upon you in full measure,
    in spite of your many sorceries^(D)
    and all your potent spells.^(E)

¹⁴ “Come together,^(A) all of you, and listen:
    Which of the idols has foretold^(B) these things?
The Lord’s chosen ally^(C)
    will carry out his purpose^(D) against Babylon;^(E)
    his arm will be against the Babylonians.^[a]
