^19 (A)And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms,
The beauty of the Chaldeans’ pride,
Will be as when God overthrew ^(B)Sodom and Gomorrah.

^20 (A)It will never be inhabited,
Nor will it be settled from generation to generation;
Nor will the Arabian pitch tents there,
Nor will the shepherds make their sheepfolds there.

¹¹ Therefore evil shall come upon you;
You shall not know from where it arises.
And trouble shall fall upon you;
You will not be able ^[a]to put it off.
And ^(A)desolation shall come upon you ^(B)suddenly,
Which you shall not know.

¹³ Because of the wrath of the Lord
She shall not be inhabited,
^(A)But she shall be wholly desolate.
^(B)Everyone who goes by Babylon shall be horrified
And hiss at all her plagues.

²⁶ They shall not take from you a stone for a corner
Nor a stone for a foundation,
^(A)But you shall be desolate forever,” says the Lord.
