Contemporary English Version
The Lord's Purpose and the King of Assyria
5 (A) The Lord says:
I am furious! And I will use the king of Assyria[a] as a club 6 to beat down you godless people. I am angry with you, and I will send him to attack you. He will take what he wants and walk on you like mud in the streets. 7 He has even bigger plans in mind, because he wants to destroy many nations.

and to trample(J) them down like mud in the streets.
7 But this is not what he intends,(K)

Isaiah 10:5-7
King James Version
5 O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
6 I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
7 Howbeit he meaneth not so, neither doth his heart think so; but it is in his heart to destroy and cut off nations not a few.
