³⁴ Then Jacob tore his clothes,^(A) put on sackcloth^(B) and mourned for his son many days.^(C)

³¹ Then David said to Joab and all the people with him, “Tear your clothes and put on sackcloth^(A) and walk in mourning^(B) in front of Abner.” King David himself walked behind the bier.

³⁰ When the king heard the woman’s words, he tore^(A) his robes. As he went along the wall, the people looked, and they saw that, under his robes, he had sackcloth^(B) on his body.
