²⁵ The first to come out was red,^(A) and his whole body was like a hairy garment;^(B) so they named him Esau.^[a](C)

²⁶ After this, his brother came out,^(A) with his hand grasping Esau’s heel;^(B) so he was named Jacob.^[a](C) Isaac was sixty years old^(D) when Rebekah gave birth to them.

⁶ So Jacob and all his offspring went to Egypt,^(A) taking with them their livestock and the possessions^(B) they had acquired^(C) in Canaan.

⁷ Jacob brought with him to Egypt^(A) his sons and grandsons and his daughters and granddaughters—all his offspring.^(B)

⁵ Do not provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land, not even enough to put your foot on. I have given Esau the hill country of Seir as his own.^(A)
