⁶ Abram traveled through the land^(A) as far as the site of the great tree of Moreh^(B) at Shechem.^(C) At that time the Canaanites^(D) were in the land.

⁷ And quarreling^(A) arose between Abram’s herders and Lot’s. The Canaanites^(B) and Perizzites^(C) were also living in the land^(D) at that time.

¹¹ When the Canaanites^(A) who lived there saw the mourning at the threshing floor of Atad, they said, “The Egyptians are holding a solemn ceremony of mourning.”^(B) That is why that place near the Jordan is called Abel Mizraim.^[a]

¹¹ “After the Lord brings you into the land of the Canaanites^(A) and gives it to you, as he promised on oath^(B) to you and your ancestors,^(C)

²⁹ The Amalekites^(A) live in the Negev; the Hittites,^(B) Jebusites^(C) and Amorites^(D) live in the hill country;^(E) and the Canaanites^(F) live near the sea and along the Jordan.^(G)”

²⁵ Since the Amalekites^(A) and the Canaanites^(B) are living in the valleys, turn^(C) back tomorrow and set out toward the desert along the route to the Red Sea.^[a](D)”

³ The Lord listened to Israel’s plea and gave the Canaanites^(A) over to them. They completely destroyed them^(B) and their towns; so the place was named Hormah.^[a](C)

⁷ Break camp and advance into the hill country of the Amorites;^(A) go to all the neighboring peoples in the Arabah,^(B) in the mountains, in the western foothills, in the Negev^(C) and along the coast, to the land of the Canaanites^(D) and to Lebanon,^(E) as far as the great river, the Euphrates.^(F)
