²³ They did not realize^(A) that Joseph could understand them,^(B) since he was using an interpreter.

¹¹ The Lord said to him, “Who gave human beings their mouths? Who makes them deaf or mute?^(A) Who gives them sight or makes them blind?^(B) Is it not I, the Lord?

² For anyone who speaks in a tongue^[a](A) does not speak to people but to God. Indeed, no one understands them;^(B) they utter mysteries^(C) by the Spirit.

¹¹ If then I do not grasp the meaning of what someone is saying, I am a foreigner to the speaker, and the speaker is a foreigner to me.^(A)
