3 Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty[a] appeared to me in Luz in the land of Canaan. He blessed me 4 and said to me, ‘I am about to give you many children, to increase your numbers, and to make you a large group of peoples. I will give this land to your descendants following you as an enduring possession.’ 5 Now, your two sons born to you in the land of Egypt before I arrived in Egypt are my own. Ephraim and Manasseh are just like Reuben and Simeon to me.

3 Jacob said to Joseph, “God Almighty[a](A) appeared to me at Luz(B) in the land of Canaan, and there he blessed me(C) 4 and said to me, ‘I am going to make you fruitful and increase your numbers.(D) I will make you a community of peoples, and I will give this land(E) as an everlasting possession to your descendants after you.’(F)
5 “Now then, your two sons born to you in Egypt(G) before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine; Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine,(H) just as Reuben(I) and Simeon(J) are mine.
