29 When the day of his death drew near, Israel summoned his son Joseph and told him, “If I have found favor in your sight, place your hand under my thigh and deal with me kindly and faithfully. Do not bury me in Egypt. 30 When I lie with my fathers, carry me from Egypt and bury me in their tomb.”
31 “I will do as you say,” he replied.
But Jacob demanded, “Swear it to me.” He answered, “I swear it.” And he swore it. Then Israel sank back on his pillow.

29 When the time drew near for Israel(A) to die,(B) he called for his son Joseph and said to him, “If I have found favor in your eyes,(C) put your hand under my thigh(D) and promise that you will show me kindness(E) and faithfulness.(F) Do not bury me in Egypt, 30 but when I rest with my fathers,(G) carry me out of Egypt and bury me where they are buried.”(H)
“I will do as you say,” he said.
31 “Swear to me,”(I) he said. Then Joseph swore to him,(J) and Israel(K) worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff.[a](L)
