⁷ God sent me ahead of you to establish you as a remnant within the land and to keep you alive by a great deliverance.^[a]

¹⁷ They said, “There must be heirs for the survivors of Benjamin, so that a tribe of Israel will not be wiped out.

³⁰ The surviving remnant^(A) of the house of Israel will again take root downward and bear fruit upward. ³¹ For a remnant will go out from Jerusalem and survivors, from Mount Zion.^(B) The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.^(C)

The Remnant Will Return

²⁰ On that day the remnant of Israel and the survivors of the house of Jacob will no longer depend on the one who struck them, but they will faithfully depend on the Lord, the Holy One of Israel.^(A)

³¹ The surviving remnant of the house of Judah will again take root^(A) downward and bear fruit upward. ³² For a remnant^(B) will go out from Jerusalem and survivors, from Mount Zion. The zeal of the Lord of Hosts will accomplish this.’^(C)
