Genesis 42:19-21
International Standard Version
19 If you’re honest men, leave one of your brothers here in custody, then the rest of[a] you can leave and take some grain with you[b] to alleviate the famine that’s affecting your households. 20 Just be sure to bring your youngest brother back to me so what you’ve claimed can be verified. That way, you won’t die.”
Joseph’s Brothers Mull over Their Predicament
21 “We’re all guilty because of what we did to[c] our brother!” they told each other. “We kept on watching his suffering while he pleaded with us! We’re in this mess because we wouldn’t listen!”

New International Version
19 If you are honest men,(A) let one of your brothers stay here in prison,(B) while the rest of you go and take grain back for your starving households.(C) 20 But you must bring your youngest brother to me,(D) so that your words may be verified and that you may not die.” This they proceeded to do.
21 They said to one another, “Surely we are being punished because of our brother.(E) We saw how distressed he was when he pleaded with us for his life, but we would not listen; that’s why this distress(F) has come on us.”
