⁵⁰ The Great Famine.^[a] Joseph had two sons in the years that preceded the famine. They were born to Asenath, the daughter of Potiphera, the priest of On. ⁵¹ Joseph called the firstborn Manasseh for, he said, “God has made me forget all my difficulties and my father’s entire family.” ⁵² He named the second son Ephraim for, he said, “God has made me prosper in the land of my affliction.”
