6 Then Judah took a wife to Er his firstborn son, whose name was Tamar.
7 (A)Now Er the firstborn of Judah was wicked in the sight of the Lord: therefore the Lord slew him.
8 And Judah said to Onan, Go in unto thy brother’s wife, and do the office of a kinsman unto her, and raise [a]up seed unto thy brother.

New International Version
6 Judah got a wife for Er, his firstborn, and her name was Tamar.(A) 7 But Er, Judah’s firstborn, was wicked in the Lord’s sight;(B) so the Lord put him to death.(C)
8 Then Judah said to Onan, “Sleep with your brother’s wife and fulfill your duty to her as a brother-in-law to raise up offspring for your brother.”(D)
