Joseph Is Sold and Taken to Egypt

¹²One day when Joseph's brothers had gone to Shechem to take care of their father's flock, ¹³Jacob said to Joseph, “I want you to go to Shechem, where your brothers are taking care of the flock.”

Joseph answered, “I am ready.”

¹⁴His father told him, “Go and see if your brothers are safe and if the flock is all right; then come back and tell me.” So his father sent him on his way from Hebron Valley.

Joseph Sold by His Brothers

¹²Now his brothers had gone to graze their father’s flocks near Shechem,^(A) ¹³and Israel^(B) said to Joseph, “As you know, your brothers are grazing the flocks near Shechem.^(C) Come, I am going to send you to them.”

“Very well,” he replied.

¹⁴So he said to him, “Go and see if all is well with your brothers^(D) and with the flocks, and bring word back to me.” Then he sent him off from the Valley of Hebron.^(E)
