New International Version

³⁰So Jacob called the place Peniel,^[a] saying, “It is because I saw God face to face,^(A) and yet my life was spared.”

²¹The Lord directed Moses, “Go down and warn the people not to break through to see the Lord; otherwise many of them will die.^(A)

²¹and the Lord said to him, “Go down and warn the people so they do not force their way through to see^(A) the Lord and many of them perish.^(B)
