Genesis 29:2-4
New Living Translation
2 He saw a well in the distance. Three flocks of sheep and goats lay in an open field beside it, waiting to be watered. But a heavy stone covered the mouth of the well.
3 It was the custom there to wait for all the flocks to arrive before removing the stone and watering the animals. Afterward the stone would be placed back over the mouth of the well. 4 Jacob went over to the shepherds and asked, “Where are you from, my friends?”
“We are from Haran,” they answered.

New International Version
2 There he saw a well in the open country, with three flocks of sheep lying near it because the flocks were watered from that well.(A) The stone(B) over the mouth of the well was large. 3 When all the flocks were gathered there, the shepherds would roll the stone(C) away from the well’s mouth and water the sheep.(D) Then they would return the stone to its place over the mouth of the well.
4 Jacob asked the shepherds, “My brothers, where are you from?”(E)
“We’re from Harran,(F)” they replied.
