Esau’s Wives

³⁴ When Esau was 40 years old, he took as his wives Judith daughter of Beeri the Hittite, and Basemath daughter of Elon the Hittite.^(A)

¹⁰ He said: “You will know that the living God is among you^(A) and that He will certainly dispossess before you the Canaanites, Hittites, Hivites, Perizzites, Girgashites, Amorites, and Jebusites^(B)

²⁹ A chariot was imported from Egypt for 15 pounds^[a] of silver, and a horse for about four pounds.^[b] In the same way, they exported them to all the kings of the Hittites and to the kings of Aram through their agents.^(A)

⁶ for the Lord^[a] had caused the Aramean camp to hear the sound of chariots, horses, and a great army.^(A) The Arameans had said to each other, “The king of Israel must have hired the kings of the Hittites^(B) and the kings of Egypt^(C) to attack us.”
