Abraham took the wood of the burnt offering and laid it on his son Isaac, and he himself carried the fire and the knife. So the two of them walked on together. Isaac said to his father Abraham, “Father!” And he said, “Here I am, my son.” He said, “The fire and the wood are here, but where is the lamb for a burnt offering?” Abraham said, “God himself will provide the lamb for a burnt offering, my son.” So the two of them walked on together.

Abraham took the wood for the burnt offering and placed it on his son Isaac,(A) and he himself carried the fire and the knife.(B) As the two of them went on together, Isaac spoke up and said to his father Abraham, “Father?”

“Yes, my son?” Abraham replied.

“The fire and wood are here,” Isaac said, “but where is the lamb(C) for the burnt offering?”

Abraham answered, “God himself will provide(D) the lamb(E) for the burnt offering, my son.” And the two of them went on together.
