²² Israel, even if your people were as numerous
as the sand of the sea,
only a remnant of them will return.^(A)
Destruction has been decreed;
justice overflows.

³ For I will pour water on the thirsty land
and streams on the dry ground;
I will pour out my Spirit^(A) on your descendants
and my blessing on your offspring.
⁴ They will sprout among^[a] the grass
like poplars by flowing streams.

³ For you will spread out to the right and to the left,^(A)
and your descendants will dispossess nations
and inhabit the desolate cities.

¹⁰ Yet the number of the Israelites
will be like the sand of the sea,^(A)
which cannot be measured or counted.
And in the place where they were told:
You are not my people,
they will be called: Sons of the living God.^(B)
