7 Then the Lord God made man from the dust of the ground. And He breathed into his nose the breath of life. Man became a living being. 8 The Lord God planted a garden to the east in Eden. He put the man there whom He had made. 9 And the Lord God made to grow out of the ground every tree that is pleasing to the eyes and good for food. And He made the tree of life grow in the center of the garden, and the tree of learning of good and bad.

7 Then the Lord God formed(A) a man[a](B) from the dust(C) of the ground(D) and breathed into his nostrils the breath(E) of life,(F) and the man became a living being.(G)
8 Now the Lord God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden;(H) and there he put the man he had formed. 9 The Lord God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees(I) that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life(J) and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.(K)

- Genesis 2:7 The Hebrew for man (adam) sounds like and may be related to the Hebrew for ground (adamah); it is also the name Adam (see verse 20).
