²⁴ This is why a man leaves his father and mother and bonds with his wife, and they become one flesh.^(A)

¹⁵ Didn’t God make them one and give them a portion of spirit? What is the one seeking?^[a] Godly offspring. So watch yourselves carefully,^[b](A) so that no one acts treacherously against the wife of his^[c] youth.

¹⁶ Don’t you know that anyone joined to a prostitute is one body with her? For Scripture says, The two will become one flesh.^[a](A)

³¹ For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife,^(A) and the two will become one flesh.^[a](B)
