11 Vultures came down on the bodies, but Abram drove them off.
12 (A)When the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and fear and terror came over him. 13 (B)The Lord said to him, “Your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land; they will be slaves there and will be treated cruelly for four hundred years.

11 Then birds of prey came down on the carcasses,(A) but Abram drove them away.
12 As the sun was setting, Abram fell into a deep sleep,(B) and a thick and dreadful darkness came over him. 13 Then the Lord said to him, “Know for certain that for four hundred years(C) your descendants will be strangers in a country not their own and that they will be enslaved(D) and mistreated there.
