3 They said to one another, “Come, let us mold bricks and harden them with fire.” They used bricks for stone, and bitumen for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city and a tower with its top in the sky,[a] and so make a name for ourselves; otherwise we shall be scattered all over the earth.”
5 The Lord came down to see the city and the tower that the people had built.

3 They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks(A) and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone,(B) and tar(C) for mortar. 4 Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens,(D) so that we may make a name(E) for ourselves; otherwise we will be scattered(F) over the face of the whole earth.”(G)
5 But the Lord came down(H) to see the city and the tower the people were building.
