“Now Tattenai governor of Trans-Euphrates, Shethar-Bozenai, and their colleagues, the officials of Trans-Euphrates—all of you stay far away from there. Leave the work on this temple of God alone.[a] Let the governor of the Jews and the elders of the Jews rebuild this temple of God in its proper place.

“I also hereby issue orders as to what you are to do with those elders of the Jews in order to rebuild this temple of God. From the royal treasury, from the taxes of Trans-Euphrates, the complete costs are to be given to these men so that there may be no interruption of the work.[b]

Now then, Tattenai,(A) governor of Trans-Euphrates, and Shethar-Bozenai(B) and you other officials of that province, stay away from there. Do not interfere with the work on this temple of God. Let the governor of the Jews and the Jewish elders rebuild this house of God on its site.

Moreover, I hereby decree what you are to do for these elders of the Jews in the construction of this house of God:

Their expenses are to be fully paid out of the royal treasury,(C) from the revenues(D) of Trans-Euphrates, so that the work will not stop.
