2 “Son of dust,” he said, “write down this date, for today the king of Babylon has attacked Jerusalem. 3 And now give this parable to these rebels, Israel; tell them, ‘The Lord God says: Put a pot of water on the fire to boil. 4 Fill it with choicest mutton, the rump and shoulder and all the most tender cuts.

2 “Son of man, record(A) this date, this very date, because the king of Babylon has laid siege to Jerusalem this very day.(B) 3 Tell this rebellious people(C) a parable(D) and say to them: ‘This is what the Sovereign Lord says:

“‘Put on the cooking pot;(E) put it on
    and pour water into it.
4 Put into it the pieces of meat,
    all the choice pieces—the leg and the shoulder.
Fill it with the best of these bones;(F)
