On that day I swore[a] to them that I would bring them out(A) of the land of Egypt into a land I had searched out for them, a land flowing with milk and honey,(B) the most beautiful of all lands.(C) I also said to them, “Throw away, each of you, the abhorrent things that you prize,[b] and do not defile yourselves with the idols of Egypt.(D) I am the Lord your God.”(E)

“‘But they rebelled against me and were unwilling to listen to me. None of them threw away the abhorrent things that they prized,[c] and they did not abandon the idols of Egypt. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them,(F) exhausting my anger against them within the land of Egypt.

“‘But they rebelled against me and would not listen to me;(G) they did not get rid of the vile images they had set their eyes on, nor did they forsake the idols of Egypt.(H) So I said I would pour out my wrath on them and spend my anger against them in Egypt.(I)
