⁹ In all cases of illegal possession of an ox, a donkey, a sheep, a garment, or any other lost property about which somebody says, ‘This is mine,’ both parties are to bring their cases before the judges.^[a](A) The one whom the judges declare^[b] guilty must pay back double to the other.

¹⁰ “If anyone gives a donkey, an ox, a sheep or any other animal to their neighbor for safekeeping^(B) and it dies or is injured or is taken away while no one is looking, ¹¹ the issue between them will be settled by the taking of an oath^(C) before the Lord that the neighbor did not lay hands on the other person’s property. The owner is to accept this, and no restitution is required. ¹² But if the animal was stolen from the neighbor, restitution^(D) must be made to the owner.

⁴ “If you come across your enemy’s^(A) ox or donkey wandering off, be sure to return it.^{(B) 5} If you see the donkey^(C) of someone who hates you fallen down under its load, do not leave it there; be sure you help them with it.

Marriage Violations

¹³ If a man takes a wife and, after sleeping with her^(A), dislikes her

²³ “Therefore, if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother or sister has something against you, ²⁴ leave your gift there in front of the altar. First go and be reconciled to them; then come and offer your gift.

⁸ But Zacchaeus stood up and said to the Lord,^(A) “Look, Lord! Here and now I give half of my possessions to the poor, and if I have cheated anybody out of anything,^(B) I will pay back four times the amount.”^(C)

⁹ Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because this man, too, is a son of Abraham.^(D)
