¹⁵ “Do not make a treaty with the inhabitants of the land, or else when they prostitute themselves with their gods and sacrifice to their gods, they will invite you, and you will eat their sacrifices.^{(A) 16} Then you will take some of their daughters as brides for your sons. Their daughters will prostitute themselves with their gods and cause your sons to prostitute themselves with their gods.^(B)

¹⁶ The Lord said to Moses, “You are about to rest with your ancestors,^(A) and these people will soon prostitute themselves with the foreign gods^(B) of the land they are entering. They will abandon me^(C) and break the covenant^(D) I have made with them.

¹³ but have walked in the ways of the kings of Israel,^(A) have caused Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to prostitute themselves like the house of Ahab^(B) prostituted itself, and also have killed your brothers,^(C) your father’s family, who were better than you,

¹⁷ And at the end of the seventy years,^(A) the Lord will restore Tyre^(B) and she will go back into business, prostituting herself with all the kingdoms of the world throughout the earth.

Unfaithful Israel, Treacherous Judah

⁶ In the days of King Josiah the Lord asked me, “Have you seen what unfaithful Israel has done? She has ascended every high hill and gone under every green tree to prostitute herself there.^(A)
