¹³ Instead, you must tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, and chop down their Asherah poles.^(A)

⁵ Instead, this is what you are to do to them: tear down their altars, smash their sacred pillars, cut down their Asherah poles,^(A) and burn their carved images.

¹⁴ He broke the sacred pillars into pieces,^(A) cut down the Asherah poles,^(B) then filled their places with human bones.

³ He removed the pagan altars and the high places. He shattered their sacred pillars and chopped down their Asherah poles.^(A)

Removal of Idolatry

31 When all this was completed, all Israel who had attended went out to the cities of Judah and broke up the sacred pillars, chopped down the Asherah poles, and tore down the high places and altars^(A) throughout Judah and Benjamin, as well as in Ephraim and Manasseh, to the last one.^[a] Then all the Israelites returned to their cities, each to his own possession.

⁴ Then in his presence the altars of the Baals were torn down, and he chopped down the shrines^[a] that were above them. He shattered the Asherah poles, the carved images, and the cast images, crushed them to dust, and scattered^(A) them over the graves of those who had sacrificed to them.^(B)

⁷ He tore down the altars, and he smashed the Asherah poles and the carved images to powder. He chopped down all the shrines throughout the land of Israel and returned to Jerusalem.^(A)
