^12 (A)Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land where you are going, lest it be a snare in your midst. ¹³ But you shall ^(B)destroy their altars, break their sacred pillars, and ^(C)cut down their wooden images ¹⁴ (for you shall worship ^(D)no other god, for the Lord, whose ^(E)name is Jealous, is a ^(F)jealous God), ¹⁵ lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and they ^(G)play the harlot with their gods and make sacrifice to their gods, and one of them ^(H)invites you and you ^(I)eat of his sacrifice, ¹⁶ and you take of ^(J)his daughters for your sons, and his daughters ^(K)play the harlot with their gods and make your sons play the harlot with their gods.

⁴ For they will turn your sons away from following Me, to serve other gods; ^(A)so the anger of the Lord will be aroused against you and destroy you suddenly.

³⁰ take heed to yourself that you are not ensnared to follow them, after they are destroyed from before you, and that you do not inquire after their gods, saying, ‘How did these nations serve their gods? I also will do likewise.’

Avoid Wicked Customs

⁹ “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, ^(A)you shall not learn to follow the ^[a]abominations of those nations.
