³⁵ The robe will be worn by Aaron whenever he ministers, and its sound will be heard when he enters the sanctuary before the Lord and when he exits, so that he does not die.

²⁰ Whenever they enter the tent of meeting or approach the altar to minister by burning a food offering to the Lord, they must wash with water so that they will not die. ²¹ They must wash their hands and feet so that they will not die; this is to be a permanent statute^(A) for them, for Aaron and his descendants throughout their generations.”

³⁵ You must remain at the entrance to the tent of meeting day and night for seven days and keep the Lord’s charge^(A) so that you will not die,^(B) for this is what I was commanded.”

⁶ Then Moses said to Aaron and his sons Eleazar and Ithamar,^(A) “Do not let your hair hang loose^(B) and do not tear your clothes,^(C) or else you will die, and the Lord will become angry^(D) with the whole community. However, your brothers, the whole house of Israel, may weep^(E) over the fire that the Lord caused.
