10 And Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone (A)written by the finger of God; and on them were all the words which Yahweh had spoken with you at the mountain from the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. 11 Now it happened (B)at the end of forty days and nights, that Yahweh gave me the two tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant. 12 (C)Then Yahweh said to me, ‘Arise, go down from here quickly, for your people whom you brought out of Egypt have acted corruptly. They have (D)quickly turned aside from the way which I commanded them; they have made a molten image for themselves.’ 13 (E)Yahweh spoke further to me, saying, ‘I have seen this people, and indeed, [a]they are a [b](F)stiff-necked people. 14 (G)Let Me alone, that I may destroy them and (H)blot out their name from under heaven; and I will make of you a nation mightier and more numerous than they.’

15 (I)So I turned and came down from the mountain while the mountain was burning with fire, and the two tablets of the covenant were in my two hands. 16 And I saw that you had indeed sinned against Yahweh your God. You had made for yourselves a molten calf; you had turned aside quickly from the way which Yahweh had commanded you. 17 And I took hold of the two tablets and threw them from my hands and shattered them before your eyes. 18 (J)And I fell down before Yahweh, (K)as at the first, forty days and nights; (L)I neither ate bread nor drank water (M)because of all your sin which you had committed in doing what was evil in the sight of Yahweh to provoke Him to anger. 19 For (N)I was afraid of the anger and the wrath with which Yahweh was provoked against you in order to destroy you, (O)but Yahweh listened to me that time also. 20 And Yahweh was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him; so I also prayed for Aaron at the same time. 21 (P)Now I took your [c]sinful thing, the calf which you had made, and burned it with fire and crushed it, grinding it very small until it was as fine as dust; and I threw its dust into the brook that came down from the mountain.

22 “Again at (Q)Taberah and at (R)Massah and at (S)Kibroth-hattaavah you provoked Yahweh to wrath. 23 When Yahweh sent you from (T)Kadesh-barnea, saying, ‘(U)Go up and possess the land which I have given you,’ then you rebelled against the [d]command of Yahweh your God; (V)you did not believe Him, and you did not listen to His voice. 24 (W)You have been rebellious against Yahweh from the day I knew you.

25 (X)So I fell down before Yahweh the forty days and the forty nights, which I [e]did because Yahweh had said He would destroy you. 26 (Y)And I prayed to Yahweh and said, ‘O Lord Yahweh, do not destroy Your people, even Your inheritance, whom You have redeemed through Your greatness, whom You have brought out of Egypt with a strong hand. 27 Remember Your servants, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; do not look at the stiff-neck of this people or at their wickedness or their sin, 28 lest the land from which You brought us say, “(Z)Because Yahweh was not able to bring them into the land which He had [f]promised them and because He hated them He has brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.” 29 Yet they are Your people, even (AA)Your inheritance, whom You have brought out by Your (AB)great power and Your outstretched arm.’

10 The Lord gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the finger of God.(A) On them were all the commandments the Lord proclaimed to you on the mountain out of the fire, on the day of the assembly.(B)

11 At the end of the forty days and forty nights,(C) the Lord gave me the two stone tablets,(D) the tablets of the covenant. 12 Then the Lord told me, “Go down from here at once, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have become corrupt.(E) They have turned away quickly(F) from what I commanded them and have made an idol for themselves.”

13 And the Lord said to me, “I have seen this people(G), and they are a stiff-necked people indeed! 14 Let me alone,(H) so that I may destroy them and blot out(I) their name from under heaven.(J) And I will make you into a nation stronger and more numerous than they.”

15 So I turned and went down from the mountain while it was ablaze with fire. And the two tablets of the covenant were in my hands.(K) 16 When I looked, I saw that you had sinned against the Lord your God; you had made for yourselves an idol cast in the shape of a calf.(L) You had turned aside quickly from the way that the Lord had commanded you. 17 So I took the two tablets and threw them out of my hands, breaking them to pieces before your eyes.

18 Then once again I fell(M) prostrate before the Lord for forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank no water,(N) because of all the sin you had committed,(O) doing what was evil in the Lord’s sight and so arousing his anger. 19 I feared the anger and wrath of the Lord, for he was angry enough with you to destroy you.(P) But again the Lord listened to me.(Q) 20 And the Lord was angry enough with Aaron to destroy him, but at that time I prayed for Aaron too. 21 Also I took that sinful thing of yours, the calf you had made, and burned it in the fire. Then I crushed it and ground it to powder as fine as dust(R) and threw the dust into a stream that flowed down the mountain.(S)

22 You also made the Lord angry(T) at Taberah,(U) at Massah(V) and at Kibroth Hattaavah.(W)

23 And when the Lord sent you out from Kadesh Barnea,(X) he said, “Go up and take possession(Y) of the land I have given you.” But you rebelled(Z) against the command of the Lord your God. You did not trust(AA) him or obey him. 24 You have been rebellious against the Lord ever since I have known you.(AB)

25 I lay prostrate before the Lord those forty days and forty nights(AC) because the Lord had said he would destroy you.(AD) 26 I prayed to the Lord and said, “Sovereign Lord, do not destroy your people,(AE) your own inheritance(AF) that you redeemed(AG) by your great power and brought out of Egypt with a mighty hand.(AH) 27 Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Overlook the stubbornness(AI) of this people, their wickedness and their sin. 28 Otherwise, the country(AJ) from which you brought us will say, ‘Because the Lord was not able to take them into the land he had promised them, and because he hated them,(AK) he brought them out to put them to death in the wilderness.’(AL) 29 But they are your people,(AM) your inheritance(AN) that you brought out by your great power and your outstretched arm.(AO)
