Exodus 17:6-8

6 I will be standing there in front of you on the rock in Horeb. Strike the rock, and the water will flow from it for the people to drink.(A) Moses did this, in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 The place was named Massah and Meribah,[a] because the Israelites quarreled there and tested the Lord, saying, “Is the Lord in our midst or not?”(B)
Battle with Amalek. 8 Then Amalek[b] came and waged war against Israel in Rephidim.(C)

- 17:8 Amalek: the Amalekites appear in the Bible as early inhabitants of southern Palestine and the Sinai peninsula prior to the appearance of the Israelites in the region. Cf. Nm 24:20.

6 I will stand there before you by the rock at Horeb.(A) Strike(B) the rock, and water(C) will come out of it for the people to drink.” So Moses did this in the sight of the elders of Israel. 7 And he called the place Massah[a](D) and Meribah[b](E) because the Israelites quarreled and because they tested the Lord saying, “Is the Lord among us or not?”

8 The Amalekites(F) came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim.(G)
