5 The total number of these people directly descended from Jacob was seventy.[a] His son Joseph was already in Egypt. 6 In the course of time Joseph, his brothers, and all the rest of that generation died, 7 (A)but their descendants, the Israelites, had many children and became so numerous and strong that Egypt was filled with them.

5 The descendants of Jacob numbered seventy[a] in all;(A) Joseph was already in Egypt.
6 Now Joseph and all his brothers and all that generation died,(B) 7 but the Israelites were exceedingly fruitful; they multiplied greatly, increased in numbers(C) and became so numerous that the land was filled with them.
