2 The Jews gathered themselves together into their cities throughout all the provinces of the King Ahasuerus, to lay hand on such as sought their hurt, and no man could withstand them: for the fear of them fell upon all people.
3 And all the rulers of the provinces, and the princes and the captains, and the officers of the King [a]exalted the Jews: for the fear of Mordecai fell upon them.
4 For Mordecai was great in the King’s house, and the report of him went through all the provinces: for this man Mordecai waxed greater and greater.

New International Version
2 The Jews assembled in their cities(A) in all the provinces of King Xerxes to attack those determined to destroy them. No one could stand against them,(B) because the people of all the other nationalities were afraid of them. 3 And all the nobles of the provinces, the satraps, the governors and the king’s administrators helped the Jews,(C) because fear of Mordecai had seized them.(D) 4 Mordecai(E) was prominent(F) in the palace; his reputation spread throughout the provinces, and he became more and more powerful.(G)
