Ecclesiastes 7:2-4
New International Version
2 It is better to go to a house of mourning
than to go to a house of feasting,
for death(A) is the destiny(B) of everyone;
the living should take this to heart.
3 Frustration is better than laughter,(C)
because a sad face is good for the heart.
4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning,
but the heart of fools is in the house of pleasure.(D)
Isaiah 22:12-14
New International Version
12 The Lord, the Lord Almighty,
called you on that day(A)
to weep(B) and to wail,
to tear out your hair(C) and put on sackcloth.(D)
13 But see, there is joy and revelry,(E)
slaughtering of cattle and killing of sheep,
eating of meat and drinking of wine!(F)
“Let us eat and drink,” you say,
“for tomorrow we die!”(G)
14 The Lord Almighty has revealed this in my hearing:(H) “Till your dying day this sin will not be atoned(I) for,” says the Lord, the Lord Almighty.
Jeremiah 15:17

Amos 6:4-6
New International Version
4 You lie on beds adorned with ivory

and fattened calves.(B)
5 You strum away on your harps(C) like David
and improvise on musical instruments.(D)
6 You drink wine(E) by the bowlful
and use the finest lotions,
but you do not grieve(F) over the ruin of Joseph.(G)
