11 No one remembers the people who[a] came before us, and as for those who are coming—after they are gone, no one will remember them either.

12 I, Ecclesiastes, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. 13 I applied my heart to seek out and explore with wisdom everything done under the sky.[b] (What a burdensome task[c] God has given the children of Adam to keep them busy!)

Wisdom Is Meaningless
12 I, the Teacher,(C) was king over Israel in Jerusalem.(D) 13 I applied my mind to study and to explore by wisdom all that is done under the heavens.(E) What a heavy burden God has laid on mankind!(F)
