Call to Obedience

4 “Now, Israel, listen to the statutes and ordinances^(A) I am teaching you to follow, so that you may live,^(B) enter, and take possession of the land the Lord, the God of your ancestors,^(C) is giving you.

¹³ “‘But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness.^(A) They did not follow my statutes and they rejected my ordinances—the person who does them will live by them.^(B) They also completely profaned my Sabbaths.^(C) So I considered pouring out my wrath on them in the wilderness to put an end to them.^(D)

²¹ “‘But the children rebelled against me.^(A) They did not follow my statutes or carefully keep my ordinances—the person who does them will live by them. They also profaned my Sabbaths. So I considered pouring out my wrath on them and exhausting my anger against them in the wilderness.

²⁵ I also gave them statutes that were not good and ordinances^(A) they could not live by.

¹² “Now, son of man, say to your people, ‘The righteousness of the righteous person will not save him on the day of his transgression; neither will the wickedness of the wicked person cause him to stumble on the day he turns from his wickedness. The righteous person won’t be able to survive by his righteousness on the day he sins.

¹⁰ and I died. The commandment that was meant for life^(A) resulted in death for me.

Living Is Christ

²¹ For me, to live is Christ^(A) and to die is gain.^(B)
