⁵ No, it is not because of your justice or the integrity of your heart that you are going in to take possession of their land; but it is because of their wickedness that the Lord, your God, is dispossessing these nations before you and in order to fulfill the promise he made on oath to your ancestors, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.^(A)

⁴ But God, who is rich in mercy, because of the great love he had for us, ^5 (A)even when we were dead in our transgressions, brought us to life with Christ^[a] (by grace you have been saved),

⁸ For by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not from you; it is the gift of God;^{(A) 9} it is not from works, so no one may boast.^(B)
