¹² “When we took possession of this land at that time, I gave to the Reubenites and the Gadites the territory beginning ^(A)at Aroer, which is on the edge of the Valley of the Arnon, and half the hill country of Gilead with ^(B)its cities.

¹⁵ To Machir ^(A)I gave Gilead, ¹⁶ and to the Reubenites ^(B)and the Gadites I gave the territory from Gilead as far as the Valley of the Arnon, with the middle of the valley as a border, as far over as the river Jabbok, ^(C)the border of the Ammonites;

¹⁸ “And I commanded you at that time, saying, ‘The Lord your God has given you this land to possess. ^(A)All your men of valor shall cross over armed before your brothers, the people of Israel.

^15 (A)until the Lord gives rest to your brothers as he has to you, and they also take possession of the land that the Lord your God is giving them. ^(B)Then you shall return to the land of your possession and shall possess it, the land that Moses the servant of the Lord gave you beyond the Jordan toward the sunrise.”

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

⁸ With the other half of the tribe of Manasseh^[a] the Reubenites and the Gadites received their inheritance, ^(A)which Moses gave them, beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of the Lord gave them:

³² These are the inheritances that Moses distributed ^(A)in the plains of Moab, beyond the Jordan east of Jericho.

^4 (A)And now the Lord your God has given rest to your brothers, as he promised them. Therefore turn and go to your tents in the land where your possession lies, ^(B)which Moses the servant of the Lord gave you on the other side of the Jordan.

⁹ So the people of Reuben and the people of Gad and the half-tribe of Manasseh returned home, parting from the people of Israel at Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go ^(A)to the land of Gilead, their own land of which they had possessed themselves by command of the Lord through Moses.
