36 The Lord will let you and your king be taken captive to a country that you and your ancestors have never even heard of, and there you will have to worship idols[a] made of wood and stone. 37 People of nearby countries will shudder when they see your terrible troubles, but they will still make fun of you.

38 You will plant a lot of seed, but gather a small harvest, because locusts[b] will eat your crops.
