²⁰ The Lord will send against you curses, confusion,^(A) and rebuke in everything you do until you are destroyed and quickly perish,^(B) because of the wickedness of your actions in abandoning me.^(C)

²⁴ All the nations will ask, ‘Why has the Lord done this to this land? Why this intense outburst of anger?’ ²⁵ Then people will answer, ‘It is because they abandoned the covenant of the Lord, the God of their ancestors, which he had made with them when he brought them out of the land of Egypt.

¹⁶ The Lord said to Moses, “You are about to rest with your ancestors,^(A) and these people will soon prostitute themselves with the foreign gods^(B) of the land they are entering. They will abandon me^(C) and break the covenant^(D) I have made with them.

¹² and abandoned the Lord, the God of their ancestors, who had brought them out of Egypt. They followed other gods from the surrounding peoples^(A) and bowed down to them. They angered the Lord,^(B)

⁸ They are doing the same thing to you that they have done to me,^[a] since the day I brought them out of Egypt until this day, abandoning me and worshiping other gods.
