Rights of the Unprotected. ^17 (A)You shall not deprive the resident alien or the orphan of justice, nor take the clothing of a widow as pledge. ¹⁸ For, remember, you were slaves in Egypt, and the Lord, your God, redeemed you from there; that is why I command you to do this.

^19 (B)When you reap the harvest in your field and overlook a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; let it be for the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow, so that the Lord, your God, may bless you in all your undertakings. ²⁰ When you knock down the fruit of your olive trees, you shall not go over the branches a second time; let what remains be for the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow. ²¹ When you pick your grapes, you shall not go over the vineyard a second time; let what remains be for the resident alien, the orphan, and the widow. ²² For remember that you were slaves in the land of Egypt; that is why I command you to do this.

²¹ You shall not wrong any widow or orphan. ²² If ever you wrong them and they cry out to me, I will surely listen to their cry. ²³ My wrath will flare up, and I will kill you with the sword; then your own wives will be widows, and your children orphans.

^24 (A)If you lend money to my people, the poor among you, you must not be like a money lender; you must not demand interest from them.

⁹ You shall not oppress a resident alien; you well know how it feels to be an alien, since you were once aliens yourselves in the land of Egypt.^(A)

³³ When an alien resides with you in your land, do not mistreat such a one.^{(A) 34} You shall treat the alien who resides with you no differently than the natives born among you; you shall love the alien as yourself; for you too were once aliens in the land of Egypt.^(B) I, the Lord, am your God.
