16 But of the cities of this people, which the Lord thy God shall give thee to inherit, thou shalt save no person alive,
17 But shalt utterly destroy them, to wit, the Hittites, and the Amorites, the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: as the Lord thy God hath commanded thee,
18 That they teach you not to do after all their abominations, which they have done unto their gods, and so ye should sin against the Lord your God.

Deuteronomy 20:16-18
New International Version
16 However, in the cities of the nations the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance, do not leave alive anything that breathes.(A) 17 Completely destroy[a] them—the Hittites, Amorites, Canaanites, Perizzites, Hivites and Jebusites—as the Lord your God has commanded you. 18 Otherwise, they will teach you to follow all the detestable things they do in worshiping their gods,(B) and you will sin(C) against the Lord your God.
