⁵ That prophet or dreamer must be put to death,^(A) because he has urged rebellion against the Lord your God who brought you out of the land of Egypt and redeemed you from the place of slavery,^(B) to turn you from the way the Lord your God has commanded you to walk. You must purge the evil from you.^(C)

²⁰ But the prophet who presumes to speak a message in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods—that prophet must die.’

¹⁴ But the Lord said to me, “These prophets are prophesying a lie in my name. I did not send them, nor did I command them or speak to them. They are prophesying to you a false vision, worthless divination, the deceit^(A) of their own minds.^(B)

¹⁵ “Therefore, this is what the Lord says concerning the prophets who prophesy in my name, though I did not send them, and who say, ‘There will never be sword or famine in this land.’ By sword and famine these prophets will meet their end.

¹⁵ Therefore, this is what the Lord of Armies says concerning the prophets:

¹⁶ This is what the Lord of Armies says: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They are deluding you. They speak visions from their own minds,^(E) not from the Lord’s mouth.^(F)

³⁰ Therefore, take note! I am against the prophets”^(A)—the Lord’s declaration—“who steal my words from each other. ³¹ I am against the prophets”—the Lord’s declaration—“who use their own tongues to make a declaration.
