³⁹ And the little ones that you said would be taken captive,^(A) your children who do not yet know^(B) good from bad—they will enter the land. I will give it to them and they will take possession of it.

⁸ As surely as I live, declares the Sovereign Lord, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been plundered^(A) and has become food for all the wild animals,^(B) and because my shepherds did not search for my flock but cared for themselves rather than for my flock,^(C)

⁴ therefore, mountains of Israel, hear the word of the Sovereign Lord: This is what the Sovereign Lord says to the mountains and hills, to the ravines and valleys,^(A) to the desolate ruins^(B) and the deserted^(C) towns that have been plundered and ridiculed^(D) by the rest of the nations around you^(E)—
