15 At sunset the men returned and said, “Your Majesty, remember that no written law of the Medes and Persians can be changed, not even by the king.”

16 (A) So Darius ordered Daniel to be brought out and thrown into a pit of lions. But he said to Daniel, “You have been faithful to your God, and I pray that he will rescue you.”

17 A stone was rolled over the pit, and it was sealed. Then Darius and his officials stamped the seal to show that no one should let Daniel out.

15 Then the men went as a group to King Darius and said to him, “Remember, Your Majesty, that according to the law of the Medes and Persians no decree or edict that the king issues can be changed.”(A)

16 So the king gave the order, and they brought Daniel and threw him into the lions’ den.(B) The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue(C) you!”

17 A stone was brought and placed over the mouth of the den, and the king sealed(D) it with his own signet ring and with the rings of his nobles, so that Daniel’s situation might not be changed.
