12 At this point, the king flew into a rage[a] and issued an order to destroy all the advisors[b] of Babylon. 13 When the order went out to kill the advisors,[c] they searched for Daniel and his friends to kill them, too.[d]

Daniel Requests Time to Answer the King

14 Daniel responded with wisdom and discretion to Arioch, the king’s executioner, who had gone out to execute the advisors[e] of Babylon.

14 When Arioch, the commander of the king’s guard, had gone out to put to death the wise men of Babylon, Daniel spoke to him with wisdom and tact.
