10 The Chaldeans answered the king, “No one on earth can make known what the king requests.(A) Consequently, no king, however great and powerful, has ever asked anything like this of any diviner-priest, medium, or Chaldean. 11 What the king is asking is so difficult that no one can make it known to him except the gods, whose dwelling is not with mortals.”(B) 12 Because of this, the king became violently angry(C) and gave orders to destroy all the wise men of Babylon.

10 The astrologers(A) answered the king, “There is no one on earth who can do what the king asks! No king, however great and mighty, has ever asked such a thing of any magician or enchanter or astrologer.(B) 11 What the king asks is too difficult. No one can reveal it to the king except the gods,(C) and they do not live among humans.”

12 This made the king so angry and furious(D) that he ordered the execution(E) of all the wise men of Babylon.
