31 His forces[a] will rise up and profane the fortified sanctuary,[b] stopping the daily sacrifice. In its place they will set up[c] the abomination that causes desolation. 32 Then with smooth words he will defile[d] those who have rejected[e] the covenant. But the people who are loyal to[f] their God will act valiantly.[g] 33 These who are wise among the people will teach the masses.[h] However, they will fall[i] by the sword and by the flame,[j] and they will be imprisoned and plundered for some time.[k]
